Vale Pet Foods: feeding raw

Feeding a raw diet is becoming increasingly more popular among pet owners (cats and dogs). A raw diet is sometimes described as a ‘Biologically appropriate diet’ due to its many health benefits. Our range of raw food is comprised of only the highest quality, natural ingredients to ensure that your dog gets all of the essential nutrients they need to stay healthy and happy. There are many benefits of feeding a raw diet, including improved digestion and dental hygiene, better breath, a healthy, glossy coat and smaller stools. The reason for smaller, firmer stools is because the percentage of the diet that is waste material is significantly lower than the percentage that is absorbed and used within the body. Our raw recipes contain the perfect ratio of meat, offal and bone, to ensure that your dog consumes a complete and balanced diet, with all of the essential nutrients included. Our varieties of raw food are a nice chunky mince, and come in a frozen, ‘free-flow’ form, which makes it incredibly easy to pour out just what you need to defrost.

Calculating how much you should feed your dog is also very simple. Most adult dogs should consume 2-3% of their body weight in raw food. For example, a 13kg adult dog should be given 280-350g per day, usually split into two meals. If they are less or more active than average, then the amount of food given should be adjusted accordingly.

Puppies require a slightly larger amount of food as they are still growing and developing. A good rule of thumb to follow would be approximately 4-6% of their body weight split over 3 or 4 meals each day, until the age of around 9 months. Click here to use our raw feeding calculator.
